Meet Heidi
Following completion of her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in political science and Spanish, Heidi began her career as a Teach for America corps member, working as a 4th grade teacher on Chicago’s south side. Her passion for education, foreign language, and international affairs led her to pursue a graduate fellowship in Germany, where she worked in the field of education and gained perspectives on teaching and learning from the German lens.
She went on to serve as the Executive Director of a mentoring non-profit in Chicago for at-risk high school students before ultimately working in philanthropy reviewing education grants across Chicagoland. More recently, Heidi returned to the classroom as a German language instructor at the Deutsche Schule of Milwaukee teaching adult beginner students. She has a master’s in teaching from Dominican University and a master’s in international relations from the University of Chicago.
Heidi and her husband, Jay, have three daughters ages 8, 7, and 4, all of whom attend Cedarburg Public Schools. Drawn by the quaint downtown, family oriented culture, and excellent schools, Heidi and Jay moved their young family here in 2017. Since then, they have strived to be active and engaged members of the community: Heidi immediately joined the Cedarburg Mom’s Club, ultimately serving on its board for a year, followed by a year on the Cedarburg Friends of the Library board. As her children got older, she then went on to write and edit the Cedarburg Bridge for two years which afforded her the opportunity to get to know neighbors and local businesses. Most recently, she has been serving as a Girl Scout leader for two troops at Westlawn. She is also a regular volunteer in her daughters’ classrooms.
When not busy with volunteer engagements and managing family life, Heidi enjoys horseback riding and caring for her cats, dog, and horses; traveling as a family; being outdoors hiking and working in the garden; and sewing.
